When Buteyko New Zealand opened for business in January, 1994, a simple
newspaper ad heralded our arrival: "Buteyko - the drug free, asthma treatment."
Our lean advertising stance worked: 12 people enrolled in our first class.
Today, from humble beginnings, over 4000 people in New Zealand have
benefited from our knowledge and expertise. Our practitioners now teach in
Australia, United States, United Kingdom and Europe. Through the internet, our
home education programme has spread across the world.
The Buteyko Asthma Management program empowers asthmatics through
self-care. We teach not only the Buteyko breathing techniques, but also we
provide asthma management and education. Asthmatics who learn Buteyko are
better educated about their condition, so are able to make informed decisions
about managing their condition.
Along with teaching the technique so that more asthmatics may gain better
control, our focus is on educating medical personnel and the general public about
the technique. We built this website for this very reason - to inform you and give
you the options.
Buteyko Asthma Management aims to have the Buteyko Method adopted by
allopathic medicine, so that it may be freely available to all asthmatics. To meet
this aim the techniques require further rigorous research, conducted over a long
period of time. We are working hard to have the proper research undertaken.
